Describing and Explaining Second Language Acquisition (SLA)

1. ADULT LERNING vs CHILD LEARNERS- as I read on Malcolm Knowles is by no means the only scholar to theorize or write about adult learning concepts …he adopted the terms “andragogy” to differentiate the teaching of adults from pedagogy, the teaching of children.
His model of adult learning can be summarized by saying that adults are motivated to learn information for which they understand the purpose and see practical applications.

This is what Wes (an immigrant) experienced and adopted learning English in surroundings where it serves as a means of daily communication and practical application for him to do his business.

Wes failed to use some grammatical features at all and used others incorrectly. These are errors of omission and overuse. J and R ( subject children for L2)

2. ADULT LEARNERS-, specially those who are so strict and conscious about grammar things are having difficulty or slow in learning a second language because based on my experience as a teacher for foreigners, they are being either “holistic or analytic thinkers. Unlike if students even if adult will learn the second language ( L2) like children, they will learn fast because children learn their L2 by verbal approach and visual approach ; experience information, “read, see or hear.
